A kitchen remodel is the single highest-return home improvement project you can do in Northwest Alabama — but the cost range is enormous. A cosmetic refresh runs $8,000–$15,000. A full gut-and-rebuild in a large kitchen can reach $80,000. Here's how to understand where your project falls and what drives the number.
Typical kitchen remodel cost ranges in Northwest Alabama (2025)
- Cosmetic refresh (paint, hardware, light fixtures): $3,000–$8,000
- Partial update (countertops + backsplash + sink): $8,000–$18,000
- Mid-range full remodel (200–250 sq ft kitchen): $25,000–$45,000
- High-end full remodel (custom cabinets, stone counters): $50,000–$80,000+
These ranges reflect actual project costs in Cherokee, Florence, Muscle Shoals, and surrounding Colbert and Lauderdale County — not national averages, which are typically 20–30% higher than Northwest Alabama pricing.
What drives kitchen remodel costs?
Cabinets — the biggest single line item
Cabinets typically represent 30–40% of a full kitchen remodel budget. Stock cabinets (pre-built in standard sizes, picked up from a home improvement store) run $2,000–$6,000 for a typical kitchen. Semi-custom cabinets (built to order in standard dimensions but with more finish and style options) run $6,000–$15,000. Full custom cabinets, built to your exact dimensions and specifications, start at $15,000 and go up from there.
For most Northwest Alabama homeowners doing a mid-range remodel, semi-custom cabinets from a regional supplier hit the right balance of quality and cost. We can help you source locally — buying from a regional shop typically saves 10–20% over the big-box store equivalent.
Countertops
Laminate is the least expensive at $15–$35 per linear foot installed. Quartz runs $55–$90 per linear foot installed and is our most recommended material — it's non-porous, doesn't require sealing, and holds up well in Alabama's humidity. Granite is similar in price to quartz. Natural quartzite and marble are the most expensive at $80–$150+ per linear foot.
For a typical 25–30 linear feet of countertop (which includes the perimeter and an island), expect $1,500–$3,500 for laminate, $4,000–$9,000 for quartz or granite, and $7,000–$15,000+ for premium stone.
Plumbing and electrical
If your remodel moves the sink, adds a kitchen island with a prep sink, or installs an under-cabinet dishwasher drain — that's a licensed plumber. Moving electrical circuits, adding a dedicated circuit for a new appliance, or upgrading an older panel to support a high-draw induction range — that's a licensed electrician. Budget $2,500–$6,000 for plumbing and $1,500–$4,000 for electrical in a full remodel, depending on what you're changing.
Layout changes — the hidden cost multiplier
Keeping your existing layout (same sink location, same appliance locations) is dramatically cheaper than moving things. Moving a sink requires extending plumbing lines, patching the floor, and often cutting the countertop differently. Moving the refrigerator or range requires new electrical rough-in. A same-footprint remodel costs significantly less than a layout change for the same quality of materials.
What's typically included in a contractor's quote
A complete kitchen remodel quote from us includes: demolition and haul-away of existing cabinets, countertops, and flooring; rough-in plumbing and electrical if needed; new cabinet installation; countertop templating and fabrication; backsplash tile and grout; new flooring; painting; and final trim and hardware. Appliances are typically excluded — those are purchased separately and installed last.
Always ask what's not included in a quote. Some contractors exclude permits, delivery fees, and appliance installation — which can add $1,500–$3,000 to the number you thought was final.
How to get the most accurate estimate
Kitchen remodel pricing is impossible to do accurately without a site visit. We need to see your existing layout, confirm the square footage, assess the plumbing and electrical condition, check the subfloor, and understand exactly what you want to change. The difference between a $25,000 and a $50,000 kitchen comes down to decisions — cabinet grade, countertop material, whether you're moving anything — and those can only be discussed in person.
